Built on over 20 years of research at UCL, the company focuses on addressing significant unmet need in patients with liver failure and related conditions.
The company was founded by Professor Rajiv Jalan, a hepatologist at UCL’s Institute for Liver and Digestive Health, whose research underpins the company’s therapeutic approach.
The Yaqrit journey so far:
- 2014: Founded by Professor Rajiv Jalan based on UCL research
- 2015: Yaqrit is incorporated and begins development activity
- 2020: Progression of therapeutic programmes towards clinical development
- 2024: Over $45m invested to date, supporting continued advancement of treatments for advanced liver disease
- 2025: clinical trial begins for Dialive (liver dialysis) to treat cute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF)

Professor of Hepatology and Head of the Liver Failure Group at UCL. First to identify acute-on-chronic liver failure as a distinct clinical entity. Professor Jalan has published over 550 papers.
