  4. MyCardium AI

MyCardium was founded in 2022 by Prof James Moon, Prof. Mark Westwood, Prof Charlotte Manisty and others.

Its mission is to eliminate uncertainty and delay in cardiovascular diagnosis, by equipping clinicians with accurate, AI-powered insights that can identify heart conditions earlier, reduce errors, and improve patient outcomes, so every patient receives the right care at the right time.

The spinout developed ‘superhuman AI’ for interpreting heart scans / echocardiographs with human-in-the-loop AI assessment of over 100 different measurements of cardiac structures such as the chambers, valves, vessels, and pericardium.

MyCardium was set up through UCL Ventures’ Portico Ventures, which helps UCL researchers set up technology-based businesses that can thrive in a fast-moving ecosystem, by providing spinout companies with an exclusive and royalty-free licence in return for a fixed percentage of equity (company ownership).

The MyCardium AI journey so far:

  • 2022: company registered in Liverpool
  • 2023: MyCardium AI receives the Liverpool City Region 'Official Tech Climber 2023' award
  • 2024: the spinout is awarded ISO 27001 certification by BSI
  • 2025:
    • MyCardium AI Secures ISO 13485 Accreditation: Setting New Standards in Medical Device Quality
    • MyCardium AI is recognised as one of the UK’s top 16 AI startups to watch by Sifted.
