Trace Neuroscience is a biopharmaceutical company on a mission to expand the promise of genomic medicine for people living with neurodegenerative diseases. 

With an initial focus on ALS, the company is developing novel therapies to restore UNC13A protein function to re-establish healthy communication between nerves and muscle cells. 

Trace Neuroscience launched in 2024 with funding from Third Rock Ventures and other leading life sciences investors, and is headquartered in South San Francisco, CA.

The Trace Neuroscience journey so far:

  • 2024: the company was founded 
  • 2025: Trace raised $101 million in a Series A
  • 2026: first in-human trials announced for lead candidate therapy in motor neurone disease (MND), RCN-1023.

Dr O’Rourke joined us in 2018, having worked as a research associate within UCL on several diverse life science / pharmaceutical research projects covering the areas of tissue engineering, drug delivery, regenerative medicine, biomaterials and stem cell biology.

Caitriona holds a PhD in tissue engineering from the Open University and a MSc in neuropharmacology from the National University of Galway, Ireland.
