Intrinsic Semiconductor is a UCL spinout commercialising novel memristive RRAM (resistive random-access memory) technology aimed at enabling next-generation semiconductor memory and energy-efficient computing applications.
The company is developing advanced non-volatile memory technologies designed to support lower-power microcontrollers and edge AI systems, helping address growing demands for efficient computing hardware. Non-volatile memory is the permanent memory used in smartphones, laptops, USB sticks, cameras, SSD hard drives etc., and today it is based on the technology known as ‘Flash’ memory. Due to its incompatibility with current manufacturing, it is difficult and costly to integrate Flash memory technology in the same semiconductor chip as the processor.
This severely impacts power consumption, increases cost, and hampers the development of new applications in the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial intelligence (AI); areas that require lower power, more performance and higher memory capacity.
Intrinsic's leadership team combines semiconductor industry veterans, including CEO Zack Deiri, with UCL founders Professor Tony Kenyon and Dr Adnan Mehonic, internationally recognised experts in nanoelectronics, memristors, and neuromorphic computing.
The Intrinsic journey so far:
- 2017: Intrinsic is founded at UCL
- 2021: £1.35 million seed funding round, led by UCL Technology Fund.

Professor Tony Kenyon
Co-founder and CEO
Tony is a Professor and lead of the Nanoelectronic & Nanophotonic Materials group. They are interested in memristive devices and systems, neuromorphic (brain-inspired) devices and systems and others.
Dr. Adnan Mehonic
Chief Technology Officer
Adnan is an Associate Professor in nanoelectronics, focusing on the development of novel nanoelectronic devices, such as memristors. He is the inventor of 12 patents.
Dr. Celine Baron
Senior Business Manager
Electronic and Electrical Engineering - EEE
Dr. Baron brings semiconductor R&D, product marketing and business development experience in image and optical sensors. Her PhD focused on PECVD boron-doped diamond.
