Cloud-based Building Information Modelling (BIM) collaboration software

3D Repo developed the first cloud-based Building Information Modelling (BIM) collaboration platform.

Instead of architects, engineers, and contractors sharing huge proprietary files in a costly and time-consuming manner, they can go to an encrypted cloud platform in order to examine each project stage virtually.

The platform supports the transmission of large version-controlled 3D models and associated metadata, rendering highly-detailed information, in particular 3D visualisations, equally as well on mobile devices in the field as at the desk. This enables true real-time collaboration for all stakeholders improving the quality and efficiency of construction projects.

3D Repo's software in action

The company spun out of Virtual Environments, Imaging and Visualisation at UCL and has been involved in many high-profile public and private construction projects including the London Olympic Stadium, Wood Wharf, Crossrail, and Smart Motorways.

The platform and team were acquired by Asite, the world’s leading data platform for the built environment.

The 3D Repo journey:

  • 2014: the spinout was founded at UCL
  • 2023: the company was bought by Asite

Founder and CEO

Dr Dobos used his Engineering Doctorate in Virtual Environments, Imaging & Visualisation (Computer Science) at UCL to create 3D Repo. He is now Chief Digital Officer at the Asite Group.

Marina Santilli

Interim Director of Physical Sciences & Engineering

Marina has specialised in the commercialisation of computer science and AI-based inventions and deep tech venture building since joining UCL Ventures in 2007. She headed straight into industry after graduating in Physics from Imperial College, enjoying a successful career in datacomms engineering and becoming Director of new product development at Verizon.

In 2010 she designed and developed E-lucid, a platform to enable online licensing of UCL’s intellectual property. E-lucid is now used by over 30 research institutions around the world and was spun out as a commercial business in 2023.

Marina was involved in the formation of many successful UCL spinouts including Satalia, Re:infer, 3DRepo, MatrixMill, Humanloop, Stanhope AI.
